The original goal of interruptingcow was to deliver bite-size, multi-genre fiction, poetry, and reviews/referrals for people that want to be readers but feel they don’t have time to enjoy complete works. The name originated from a knock-knock joke my favorite fan once told me. It fit my personality because I worked really hard not to let my thoughts verbally leak out while people are talking. In that regard, sometimes even today I fail. I can handle the label “cow” as a feminist who can also embrace the title “broom rider…” although I prefer, “Broom Writer.”
This blog started as an old fashioned secret place where I could plant my writings and see how the garden would turn out. This foundation remains true. More recently I began posting what I call “Unplugged notebook writings,” unedited scribblings from my practice sessions. I have incorporated this series because my full-time traditional gig doesn’t always permit time for posting polished pieces of any depth on a regular basis. Interruptingcow remains an unknown writer’s accountability partner for “writing down the bones.” I hope it can also serve as inspiration to other unknown writers to do the same. I write regularly to sharpen my skills and as my own personal form of sanity enhancing meditation.
Please comment about what you like or dislike on various posts. I appreciate constructive input. I don’t care if you disagree with what’s written. Tell me what emotions it caused, or what you thought of its construction. I write. Being traditionally published is on my bucket list. I want to be the best at everything I do or I don’t want to do it at all. This project will either persuade me that I don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it, or it will give me the discipline to be the artist I want to become.
To fellow writers – Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones as referenced above is a wonderful inspiration for the practice of writing, as are many others. My favorite remains Stephen King’s On Writing which insists that if you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write.
To all blog readers – I know the word “interrupting” is spelled wrong in the URL for this page. It wasn’t available with the correct spelling on Twitter when I originally set up the account so I chose to stay consistent across mediums.
